Engineering note: Replacement work starts with the installed assembly. The housing, bearing locations and mating component often constrain geometry more tightly than the loose worn part suggests.

"How
Selection media for the relevant worm or wheel family. Final production geometry is confirmed from the RFQ.

What changes mechanically

Collect center distance, shaft axes, worm starts and hand, wheel tooth count, bore/shaft interfaces, face position and material.

Small worm gearing is sensitive to the relationship between the two members. Module or nominal size is only one coordinate. The mating definition also includes starts, hand, ratio, center distance, tooth system, material pairing and the way both components are located by bearings or hubs.

How to select or specify it

If the old teeth are worn, do not use worn outside dimensions as the only design basis. Original drawings, an unworn mating component or a controlled housing measurement can be more reliable.

For a useful technical review, add the operating conditions: input speed, expected output torque, duty cycle, reversing frequency, ambient temperature and lubrication method. These inputs help separate a geometry question from a material, wear or thermal question.

What to verify before release

Explain the failure mode and operating duty. A replacement is an opportunity to correct material, lubrication or alignment problems rather than duplicating them.
