The reduction ratio is tied to wheel tooth count and worm starts, but the physical pair also depends on module, hand, center distance and tooth system. Sliding contact means material pairing and lubrication deserve early attention, even when loads appear modest.<\/p>\n

Small worm gearing is sensitive to the relationship between the two members. Module or nominal size is only one coordinate. The mating definition also includes starts, hand, ratio, center distance, tooth system, material pairing and the way both components are located by bearings or hubs.<\/p>\n

How to select or specify it<\/h2>\n

For a first layout, define the motor speed, target output speed, required output torque and available center distance. Then decide whether a shafted ground worm, a cut worm, a bronze wheel or a fine-pitch polymer wheel fits the duty.<\/p>\n

For a useful technical review, add the operating conditions: input speed, expected output torque, duty cycle, reversing frequency, ambient temperature and lubrication method. These inputs help separate a geometry question from a material, wear or thermal question.<\/p>\n

What to verify before release<\/h2>\n

Do not treat \u201cworm gear\u201d as a self-locking guarantee. Backdriving behavior depends on lead angle, friction, lubrication, finish, load and vibration, so safety functions need a separate engineering check.<\/p>\n
